I get emails like this almost every day:

Dear Mr. Deal,

In making my decision about voting, I have these questions to ask of you. What is your position on abortion, cutting taxes, gun rights, gay marriage, and the death penalty.

These are the wedge issues. Wedge issues are in all cases more complex than their 15-second sound bite versions.

Wedge issues are used to trick voters into voting against their own best interest.

If wedge issues were studied with an open mind, concensus could be achieved.
