James Robert Deal, Lynnwood attorney, announced today that he is running for County Executive.

TRAFFIC CONGESTION

Deal says, “Traffic congestion is the first issue I will address. Mass transit will continue to be a relative failure unless we have a better way to get riders too and from mass transit. A flex-van system, using UberX smart phone technology, picking us up at the front door and driving us to the Park and Ride, is the solution. Most local buses drive around mostly empty most of the time, wasting money. With a flex-van system we could fill up the commuter buses, take a third of the cars off the freeway, save money, and expand light rail without raising taxes. It costs around $700 per month to own, operate, maintain, insure, and fuel a car. Some people cannot afford a car. Some people do not like to drive. Some have to work on Sunday when transit service is non-existent. As county executive, I will have a seat on the Regional Transit Board, which has no idea what to about traffic congestion. I have a plan. It will work. It will work quickly. It will save money and deliver much better service. It should be possible to get around without owning a car.”

VIADUCTS OVER OR UNDER RAILROAD AT-GRADE CROSSINGS

Deal says: “I will work to obtain funding to create viaducts over or under major at-grade rail crossings. This will be costly, but the status quo is even more costly.”

COMMERCIAL AIR SERVICE AT PAINE FIELD – NO THANK YOU

Deal says: “Light rail will extend to Paine Field and to Everett. Once you are on light rail, it is almost like you are at SeaTac. So we do not need commercial air service at Paine Field. Paine Field is surrounded by homes. SeaTac is maxed out, and we do need a massive new airport. The place for it is McChord, which has plenty of room. It would connect to population to the north by Link Light Rail, which would be extended nine miles south from Tacoma.”

BUILD A FIBER OPTIC INTERNET Deal says: “Municipal fiber optic systems in Mount Vernon and Chattanooga deliver one gigabyte up and one gig down for $70 per month. If they can do it, Snohomish County can too. A fiber optic internet will be a business magnet.”

SMART METERS ARE DUMB, BUT THEY ARE COMING Deal says: “Smart meters are being installed in Seattle, and they are coming to Snohomish County. Smart meters connect to utilities by cell phone technology and blast out a heavy dose of microwaves. If your bedroom is on the other side of the wall from a microwave meter, you can be harmed. Some people are especially sensitive to microwaves. Smart meters are easily hacked, opening a security hole into our privacy. Smart meters do not save money, in fact they raise utility bills. They catch fire. There are better, more secure solutions available, specifically a land line connection via telephone lines or cable.”

CLEAN UP OUR DRINKING WATER

Deal says: “So-called fluoride added to our water is toxic waste filth from fertilizer production. It contains lead, arsenic, cadmium, mercury, and thallium. It leaches lead from plumbing. It harms the growing fetus and children most because their cells are still dividing. A Harvard study says it reduces IQ. There are much better ways to prevent tooth decay. Fluoridated water drains into streams and rivers. It repels and kills salmon. Fluoridation is an assault, a scam, a fraud, a consumer protection act violation, and medical quackery.”

NON-PARTISAN SNOHOMISH COUNTY ELECTIONS

Deal says: “Most issues which divide and paralyze Republicans and Democrats on the national and state levels do not apply on the local level. City elections are non-partisan. County elections should be too. I am running as an independent.”

BRAND SNOHOMISH COUNTY AS THE ORGANIC COUNTY

Deal says: “The WHO has declared that Roundup is a Type 2A carcinogen, meaning that it has been proven to cause cancer in various experimental animals and is considered to be a probable carcinogen in humans. Roundup repels and kills salmon. I will push to ban the commercial spraying of Roundup and other carcinogenic pesticides throughout the County. Sri Lanka’s new president has banned Roundup. Bermuda has too. I favor rezoning all commercial agricultural lands for organic crops only, as counties in California, Oregon, and Hawaii have done. Organic products sell for a higher price. Our farmers will prosper. Our salmon runs will recover. And we will all be less polluted.”

BUILD THE NEW COURT HOUSE AT EVERETT STATION

If plans for the new court house are not final by the time I take office, I will encourage a review of where it should be located. We should consider locating it at Everett Station, where bus and train access will reduce the parking problem.
